Introducing Wild Gravel

On 5 October 2024, a new era of gravel will begin in the Stirling Ranges, Western Australia.

Gravel cycling around the world has exploded in recent years, and Western Australia has been at the forefront, with events such as Seven, Backroads and Bike it to Ballidu Gravel all being huge hits and growing quickly. But locals in the Great Southern have known of a place destined to join this illustrious list of events, the iconic Stirling Ranges, or more traditionally, Koikyennuruff.

Covering an area of nearly 1200 square kilometres, the Stirling Ranges are a biodiversity hotspot, and an outdoor lovers paradise. With the highest peaks for thousands of kilometres, and home to over 1500 plant species, not to mention dozens of native mammals and many bird species, it certainly is a wilderness to witness, particularly during October as it is wildflower season.

Bike riding is not the only way to experience the fun of Wild Gravel. In addition to 4 gravel cycling distances, we have 3 gravel run options, including a half marathon, as well as the ride+run category for the multi-sport enthusiasts. For the non-athletes, volunteering is a fun way to take part.

The Shire of Gnowangerup, approximately 3.5 hours from Perth and just over 1 hour from Albany, includes the towns of Gnowangerup, Borden and Ongerup. The shire is home to many unique offerings, we invite you to explore the area and discover it’s many hidden gems. Come for Wild Gravel, stay and discover the hikes, wildflowers, camping and many other local unique experiences.

Join us in the inaugural year of this exciting new event.
